Annual Report of the Electronic Media Committee 2002Your Electronic Media Committee 2002 was very busy this past year in two specific areas: 1. On April 29, 2002, we added a Listproc for mass outgoing messages from the IJA President and Office to communicate with online IJA members. (As of November 25, 2002, we had 431 e-mail IJA member-subscribers.) 2. We started the online IJA Benchbook at http://ija.org/bb/benchbok.htm (subject to Peer Review and Caveat Emptor) in Criminal, Juvenile and Civil Law areas, arranged by stage of the proceeding. We want every Illinois Judge to make a New Year's Resolution to make one contribution to the benchbook per year! Benchbook articles are pragmatic helps for judges (to make the daily grind not so burdensome!!), and not just meant to be cheat-sheets in areas of the law. We posted no new Ethics Opinions to the IJA website (http://ija.org/ethicsop/ethindex.htm). Assisted ably in the drafting of the final opinion by Committee Administrator, Maureen McClelland, your committee has these Judicial Ethics Opinions available going back to 1993. The opinions drafters, the Illinois Judicial Ethics Committee is comprised of members of the Chicago Bar, Illinois State Bar, and Illinois Judges Associations. Due to the fine work of Judges Grace G. Dickler and Daniel T. Gillespie, the new Gavel Print Newsletter Editors, we continue to publish (http://ija.org/gavel.htm) each quarterly Gavel electronic edition in Adobe? Acrobat? Reader? (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html) pdf format, with more than ample aid from Executive Assistant Maureen McClelland (info@ija.org). Most Internet browsers (Netscape and MS IE) work with this print format and most new computer systems sold in America now have the Adobe? Acrobat? Reader? included as a plugin to their Internet browser software. So clicking on the IJA Gavel electronic edition title at http://ija.org/gavel.htm, automatically loads the pdf reader and the viewer sees the electronic edition exactly as contained in the print version, including color pictures not in the print edition! The online Gavel now has monthly updates with Judicial News and Views in between the quarterly Gavel issues. The IJA website has a really nice collection of the latest judicial forms for use right off the bench (http://ija.org/bb/forms.htm) and includes a good collection of juvenile abuse and neglect as well as delinquency forms. See also forms regarding Filing of a Suit or Pleadings, Comparable Method of Service, Cook County Forms, Child Support, Judge's Marital and Non-Marital Template and Spreadsheet Forms, Wedding Ceremonies, Criminal Rights Admonitions. There are three **FREE** two-way language translation services available. We try to keep the latest in proper forms on the forms site available for use by judges. We have added in the last year eight (8) new categories of interest to judges. Various basic information on the site includes:
Links to a few other state judges associations and the Illinois Supreme Court round out the list of IJA website references. Your committee renewed its Internet domain name October, 2001 (ija.org) and fully intends to reserve its use in the future for the Illinois Judges Association. It is short (6 letters--minimum is just 4!!), unique and easy to remember and therefore worth a lot of money. It took your committee a lot of work to obtain this domain name four years ago, since it had to be transferred from an organization in Idaho already using it. So we intend to keep it!! Your committee wants to thank President Stuart A. Nudelman (stunudel@msn.com) and Executive Assistant Maureen McClelland (info@ija.org) for a SUPER job in helping your committee this past year. November 27, 2002 Respectfully submitted:
CHAIR: David A. Youck
