Justice Cynthia Cobbs’s introduction to the court system was as a clinical social worker who had to appear in cases involving court involved children. She continues to bring her strong sense of taking care of our most vulnerable citizens to her work as a judge. At the same time, she is truly out there as a judge—bringing her terrific energy and contagious laugh to many places in the legal community.
Justice Cobbs is a proud member of the Board of Directors of South Suburban PADS.This is a not-for-profit organization that delivers shelter, housing and rehabilitative services to South Suburban Cook County’s homeless population., SS PADS is committed to helping people in the South Suburbs overcome homelessness and provides meals, affordable housing assistance and emergency shelter. She was also on the board of Lawyers Lend A Hand to Youth, anot-for-profit organization that provides mentoring services to underprivileged youth in the Chicagoland area, and she served as a weekly tutor in the organization’s tutoring program.
For the legal and judicial community, Justice Cobbs was a member of the inaugural Board of Trustees of the Supreme Court’s Judicial College. She was Chairperson of the Illinois Judicial Council. She teaches at Ed Con, judges the ALA Moot Court and is a super active member of the IJA , serving currently as a Board member and First District Chairperson of the Pro Bono Committee and all around active and involved member.
Justice Cobbs has won too many awards to list but is perhaps most proud of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Spirit Award in 2024 and indeed it is that spirit and commitment that she brings to the legal community and the community at large.
